Yakubu marked his return from injury with his first goal in 10 matches as Everton drew with Middlesbrough.

Just eight minutes were on the clock when Gary O'Neil fired Boro's opener, slipping in unmarked at the near post.

Geovanni equalised for the Tigers as Hull and Manchester City ended three-game losing runs in the league.

Daniel Cousin put Hull in front, capitalising on Tal Ben-Haim's awful back-pass to flick the ball past Joe Hart, who later went off injured.

Stephen Ireland levelled after a heavy touch from Kamil Zayatte gifted him an open goal and he then put his side ahead with a brilliant 18-yard shot.

But Geovanni equalised against his former club with a deflected free-kick.

The result might not fully satisfy either manager but it was a fair result after an entertaining contest in which some awful defensive errors added to the drama.

Sunderland produced a vastly improved second-half performance as they came from behind to avenge their midweek Carling Cup defeat by Blackburn.

Liverpool's Premier League title challenge gathered further momentum with an impressive victory at Bolton.

Dirk Kuyt brilliantly headed the visitors in front from Fabio Aurelio's cross after 28 minutes.

Tuncay profited from two shocking defensive errors to give Middlesbrough victory at Aston Villa and send them up to eighth in the Premier League.

He struck first after 34 minutes, lashing home from six yards after Nicky Shorey failed to clear a cross.

The hosts hit back within three minutes through a Steve Sidwell header.

But, after Afonso Alves had somehow missed for Boro from three yards, Sidwell's dreadful back pass set up Tuncay to score an 88th-minute winner.
