Marouane Fellaini delivered a transfer request in person to Everton after driving to the club's training ground on Monday evening to speak personally to manager Roberto Martinez and plead with him to sanction his switch to Manchester United.
Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye had his hopes of a transfer deadline move to Arsenal dashed when Magpies boss Alan Pardew and the United board told him that he would not be allowed to leave.
Tottenham defender Danny Rose has said no-one at White Hart Lane should begrudge former team-mate Gareth Bale his world record move to Real Madrid.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes the Gunners have made the signing of the summer after completing a club-record £42.4m for Real Madrid's midfielder Mesut Ozil.
German international Ozil is believed to have turned down a bigger offer from French side Paris Saint-Germain to join the Premier League side.
Manchester United were knocked back by Real Madrid after making an offer of £35m for Germany midfielder Sami Khedira.

Real Madrid are preparing to follow up their £85.3m world record signing of Gareth Bale by making a £45m swoop for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that defender Fabio Coentrao will be staying at the Bernabeu this summer amid speculation of a possible move to Manchester United.
Tottenham want to bring Coentrao in on loan.
Real Madrid forward Kaka will sign for former club AC Milan on loan, while Arsenal and Manchester United will compete for the signature of playmaker Mesut Ozil as the Spanish giants try to recoup some of the money they spent on Bale.
Arsenal will complete the signing of Ozil either as a permanent or loan deal, and are also chasing his Real Madrid team-mate winger Angel Di Maria, as well as Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler and Chelsea's out-of-favour striker Demba Ba.
Arsene Wenger is preparing an £80m spending spree in the final hours of the transfer window, with Arsenal ready to launch bids for Ozil, Di Maria and Palermo striker Abel Hernandez.
Blackpool winger Tom Ince is set for a £10m move to Tottenham Hotspur but will remain on loan with the Seasiders until the end of the season.
Gabriel Tamas is a target for Crystal Palace, after West Brom coach Steve Clarke told the central defender he can leave the club.

AS Roma insist midfielder Daniele De Rossi is not for sale amid reports Manchester United are still targeting the highly rated midfielder.

Tottenham forward Gareth Bale's transfer to Real Madrid has still not been confirmed and the Spanish club have had to dismantle the stage they erected at the Bernabeu to present the Wales international to their fans as they have a game on Sunday.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants Real Madrid to pay an extra £10m if Bale is sold to a Premier League club within four years of his switch to the La Liga outfit.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign another forward before the transfer window closes as he is concerned at the lack of quality he has available in the striker department at Stamford Bridge.
Juventus have ended their interest in Manchester United's winger Nani, with the Italian club's sporting director Fabio Paratici saying the player has signed a new contract at Old Trafford.
Swansea have warned Arsenal they are prepared to fight "tooth and nail" to keep hold of central defender Ashley Williams and striker Michu.

Real Madrid claim they will sign Gareth Bale for £78m, leaving the £80m the Spanish club paid for Cristiano Ronaldo as the world record fee for a player.
Manchester United will make an improved bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera after a £21m offer was rejected by the Spanish club.
United will trigger the release clause in Herrera's contract with a £30.7m bid, while also offering Roma £10.2m for midfielder Daniele De Rossi.
The Old Trafford club consulted former England manager Fabio Capello about the abilities of De Rossi, although their offer for the Italy international has been turned down by the Serie A side.
Everton have remained silent about Manchester United's improved offer of £36m for defender Leighton Baines and midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
