Robert Koren scored twice as West Brom eased past Middlesbrough to climb off the foot of the Premier League table.

Chris Brunt set the Baggies on their way with a deflected strike as Boro appealed in vain for offside.

Afonso Alves missed a series of chances for the visitors but a Koren strike that sliced off debutant Marc-Antoine Fortune made it 2-0 after the break.

Boro's Didier Digard was then sent off for a late lunge and Koren added a third from Brunt's fabulous pass.

Tony Mowbray's side fully deserved their win but the first half was as even as it was open.
