Portsmouth appoint Avram Grant as new manager

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has been appointed Portsmouth manager after Paul Hart was relieved of the role.

The 54-year-old Israeli was already at the club in his second spell working as director of football.

He will take charge of Saturday's home game with Manchester United in that role as his work permit needs to be changed before he can become manager.

"He knows the club, players and set-up so it was logical to make him manager," said chief executive Peter Storrie.

Grant first came to Fratton Park as technical director in June 2007 but was soon snapped up by Chelsea and within months became coach at Stamford Bridge after Jose Mourinho left the Blues.

Hart gets the tin tack from Portsmouth

Paul Hart has left Portsmouth after a shocker of a start to the season only winning 2 of the 13 games played so far losing 10 and drew 1. Although their goal difference inst the worst in the league (thats Wigan) they just cant be consistent enough. They managed their first win over Wolves when they won 1-0 and then had an amazing game against Stoke beating them 4-0 , so now the rumours will start to fly about who will take over, two name's being mentioned is Steve Coppell and Alan Curbishley who knows.

Wigan players set to refund fans

Wigan's players are to personally refund Latics fans who bought tickets at the DW Stadium for the 9-1 hammering at Tottenham on Sunday.

Wigan took a large following to White Hart Lane for the defeat, the second heaviest in Premier League history.

"We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday," said Wigan captain Mario Melchiot via the official club website.

"This is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their loyalty."

Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy fears his career could be over after one or two more seasons.
The former West Ham United attacker is currently trying to shake off a groin strain which saw him miss Wales' friendly against Scotland last weekend.
The groin problem is the latest in a catalogue of injuries and subsequent operations that have dogged Bellamy's career and the player believes his playing days may be cut short.

Darren Bent reckons Sunderland can overcome Arsenal at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Manchester United's Paul Scholes wants manager Sir Alex Ferguson to remain at Old Trafford for years to come. Ferguson has had a glorious 23-year stay at United where he has won a clutch of honours including the Barclays Premier League on 10 occasions.
The 67-year-old did have plans to retire at the end of the 2001/02 campaign but decided to stay on and lead the Red Devils to even more silverware.
