Coach Roberto Mancini will step up Manchester City's search for a new defender if Vincent Kompany loses his red card appeal, and the champions could target Borussia Dortmund pair Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels.
Arsenal are trying to sign midfielder Mohamed Diame from West Ham by offering £3.5m for the Senegal star.
As well as beating Newcastle to the signing of Marseille striker Loic Remy QPR boss Harry Redknapp is hoping to secure a £8m move for Rennes' midfielder Yann M'Vila in the next 24 hours.
