Liverpool are ready to move for Brazilian defender Douglas on a free transfer as a replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher. The player, who currently plays for FC Twente, was previously the subject of a £4m bid from Newcastle but he is out of contract in the summer.
Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho has issued a 'come and get me' plea to Manchester City. City boss Roberto Mancini has expressed his interest in signing the player who has a £42.5m release clause in his contract, although he hopes the Ukrainian giants will take nearer £20m.
